Land of Enchantment with deep Hispanic, Native American, and atomic heritage. Ancient pueblos and high desert beauty. Today economic challenges and cultural preservation needs.
We consecrate the state of New Mexico, her people groups, families and the year 2067: We repent of occult roots and generational poverty. Break hidden altars and plant biblical worship in every sphere. Raise New Mexico as a Southwestern incubator of multicultural unity and Kingdom creativity for the next 50 years.
Navajo Government Structure
The Navajo Nation (Naabeehó Bináhásdó) operates as a sovereign tribal nation with its own government structure. It is not part of any U.S. state government in the same way counties or cities are. The Navajo Nation has a three-branch government modeled in part on the U.S. system but rooted in tribal sovereignty:
- Executive Branch: Headed by an elected President and Vice President.
- Legislative Branch: The Navajo Nation Council (24 members elected by chapters).
- Judicial Branch: Tribal courts, including a Supreme Court.
This structure was formalized in its current form through reforms in 1989 (Title II Amendment). The nation has its own laws, police, courts, education system, and services on its large reservation spanning parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
Current President: As of mid-2026, Buu Van Nygren (often referred to as Buu Nygren) is the 10th President of the Navajo Nation. He was elected in 2022, sworn in on January 10, 2023, and is running for reelection in the 2026 Navajo Nation presidential election.
Why does the U.S. government give money to the Navajo Nation (and Other Tribes)?
This funding stems from legal and historical obligations rather than simple "welfare":
- Treaties and Trust Responsibility: The U.S. government entered into treaties with tribes in which tribes ceded vast lands in exchange for protections, annuities, services (like healthcare and education), and reserved rights. The federal government has a fiduciary trust responsibility, a legal and moral duty described by the Supreme Court as "moral obligations of the highest responsibility and trust." This includes protecting tribal lands, resources, and providing certain services.
- Federal Agencies: Funding flows through the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Indian Health Service (IHS), Bureau of Indian Education, and other programs for infrastructure, health, education, housing, and economic development on reservations.
- Sovereignty and Self-Determination: Modern policy emphasizes tribal self-governance. Tribes often contract or compact with the federal government to manage these services themselves.
It is not discretionary charity but fulfillment of treaty-based and trust obligations arising from the unique government-to-government relationship between the U.S. and federally recognized tribes.
Why do Native American tribes own most Casinos, even where State laws prohibit them?
This is due to tribal sovereignty and federal law:
- Tribes are sovereign nations whose authority predates the U.S. Constitution. States generally cannot regulate activities on tribal lands.
- The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) of 1988 was passed after a Supreme Court ruling affirming tribes' rights to gaming on their lands.
- IGRA allows federally recognized tribes to operate gaming (including casinos) on their sovereign territory if it is not prohibited by federal law.
- For high-stakes "Class III" gaming (slots, table games), tribes negotiate compacts with states. Even in states that restrict or ban commercial casinos, tribes can often operate them because of sovereignty.
- Purpose: IGRA was intended to promote tribal economic development, self-sufficiency, and strong tribal governments. Gaming revenue supports essential services like schools, healthcare, housing, and infrastructure on reservations.
This has been a major economic driver for many tribes, though not all tribes have casinos, and success varies.
Does U.S. government money contribute to laziness and drug abuse among Native Tribes?
- Substance abuse issues are real: Native American/Alaska Native populations experience disproportionately high rates of substance use disorders, alcohol-related deaths, opioid issues, and methamphetamine use compared to national averages. Poverty, unemployment, and related problems are also significantly higher on many reservations.
- Root causes are multifaceted (not primarily "government checks causing laziness"):
- Historical Trauma: Centuries of colonization, forced relocation (e.g., Long Walk for Navajos), broken treaties, boarding schools that suppressed culture/language, and loss of land/resources created deep intergenerational trauma.
- Socioeconomic Factors: High poverty, unemployment (sometimes 40-80%+ in some areas), limited job opportunities on remote reservations, poor infrastructure, and health disparities.
- Cultural Disruption: Erosion of traditional governance, family structures, and spiritual practices.
- Access and Isolation: Limited treatment options, transportation barriers, and underfunded services.
- Other Contributors: Availability of substances, mental health challenges, and in some cases, family or community patterns.
- Government Funding's Role: Federal programs have sometimes fostered dependency rather than self-sufficiency, and bureaucratic systems can be inefficient as it has been the case with the black communities.
The Navajo Nation, like other tribes, continues to navigate sovereignty, economic development, cultural preservation, and health issues while asserting its rights in the government-to-government relationship with the U.S. (For the most current details, official sources include the Navajo Nation website (navajo-nsn.gov) and the Office of the President).
"Before something is declared new, it means there was something old" (Revelation 21:1-2)
What was the old Mexico that gave rise to "New Mexico"?
The name "New Mexico" (originally Nuevo México) was used by Spanish explorers as early as the 1560s more than 250 years before the modern nation of Mexico gained independence in 1821. It referred to lands north of the conquered Aztec (Mexica) Empire in "Old Mexico," evoking hopes of wealthy cities like the legendary Cibola and the ancestral northern homeland (Aztlán) of the Mexica people. Thus, New Mexico is actually older in its naming than the country now called Mexico. The territory became part of the United States after the Mexican-American War (1846–1848) and achieved statehood in 1912 as the 47th state.
Etymology of "Mexico" and Prophetic Destiny
The word "Mexico" derives from Nahuatl (Aztec) roots, likely referring to Mexitli or Mexi (an Aztec god or leader) and meaning something like "place of the Mexica" or "in the navel of the moon." It points to the heartland of a powerful ancient empire built on conquest, blood sacrifice, and intricate spiritual systems.
Prophetically, New Mexico carries a redemptive calling as the Land of Enchantment. Its deep Hispanic, Native American (Pueblo, Navajo, Apache), and unique American heritage including ancient pueblos, high desert beauty, and even atomic legacy (Los Alamos) speak of layers of history that God desires to redeem. The "old" involved empires, blood covenants, and occult-rooted systems. The "new" is a call to break those cycles and release a fresh move of the Spirit — turning places of ancient enchantment and sacrifice into altars of true worship, healing, and supernatural outpouring. Revelation 21:1-2
In the 50 Days • 50 States • 50 Years campaign, New Mexico is positioned to release revelation from the desert, cultural reconciliation, and a voice that confronts modern strongholds while stewarding creation and heritage for Kingdom purposes.
Current Realities and Kingdom Strategy
New Mexico faces economic challenges, cultural preservation needs, and spiritual tensions amid its rich diversity. Yet its high desert and ancient sites are invitations for the Church to establish prayer altars that connect heaven and earth. As part of the national body (1 Corinthians 12), New Mexico's uniqueness bridging Indigenous roots, Hispanic depth, and frontier innovation must be offered to the whole union rather than isolated. This counters fragmentation and releases supply for America's healing.
"New Mexico, Land of Enchantment! What was old is being made new. Break every cycle of ancient blood covenants and modern strongholds. Let the desert bloom with revival (Isaiah 35). Reconcile people groups under the blood of the Lamb. Release atomic-level spiritual power for purity and innovation in the fear of the Lord."
This fits the campaign's emphasis on state-by-state repentance, prayer webs, and national covering. New Mexico's role in the Second Revolutionary War is to turn enchantment toward the Holy Spirit and model redemption of layered histories for the nation.
Week 5 Focus: Evil Worship Systems and Spiritual Warfare
This week's intercession targets a particular dimension of national spiritual warfare, with focused prayer each day for one state. Today we lift up New Mexico and dedicate the year 2068 within the coming 50 years to the Lord. Last week centered on the year 2030, while Week 5 (June 18-24) addresses evil worship systems, spiritual warfare, and the role of prophetic and apostolic intercession. Every evil worship system is structured around a false god, an evil altar, priests, sacrifices, and binding covenants. Deliverance cannot occur until the controlling powers are confronted and broken (Matthew 12:29; 2 Corinthians 4:3-5). Moses first confronted Egypt's evil worship system before the Israelites could walk into their destiny. Today, similar systems operate among different people groups in the USA, within every state, and at a national level. (Psalm 24:7) We confront and dismantle the effects of the UN/WHO/WEF and UN Agenda 2030 by the blood of Jesus and the authority of God's Word (Colossians 2:15; Jeremiah 1:10; Isaiah 25:7-8).
The Raising the 12 Project is a strategic designation for Jesus' discipleship model. It raises up a new priesthood in New Mexico, believers willing to be formed into what God is doing in this hour (John 5:17, 19), to stand in the gap for the moment (Ezekiel 22:30), to connect the remnant, embrace new wineskins, pursue a consecrated Nazarite lifestyle, and set themselves apart as a dedicated few for the Lord's purposes.
Family Foundations: Then and Now
In New Mexico today compared with the its founding, families face notable pressures. Divorce rates remain significant, contributing to household instability. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2015, with increasing cultural acceptance alongside rising gender confusion. Abortion continues, with the state seeing thousands of procedures annually in recent years (often serving as a destination for care from other states). These realities have weakened family bonds, increased fatherlessness, and created identity and relational challenges across generations. When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3). The righteous must rebuild on the Rock of Christ through repentance, family altars, discipleship, and bold intercession that restores biblical patterns.
Early Revivals and New Mexico's Heritage
The Great Awakenings and subsequent revival movements emphasized personal conversion, holiness, and societal transformation. Though New Mexico was frontier territory during many of those waves, missionary efforts, Catholic missions, and Protestant outreach carried the Gospel to Native peoples and settlers. These influences helped plant seeds of faith amid cultural blending. New Mexico's role in the Revolutionary War period was limited (as it was under Spanish then Mexican control), but its frontier spirit parallels the assignment in today's Second Revolutionary War, a spiritual battle against captivity. New Mexico is called to release beauty from ashes, reconcile diverse heritages, and stand as a voice of redemption in the Southwest.
Current Spiritual Atmosphere in New Mexico
New Mexico's population includes a large Hispanic/Latino share (around 49%), White non-Hispanic (around 36%), Native American (about 9-11%), and smaller percentages of Black, Asian, and multiracial residents. Religiously, "nones" (unaffiliated) represent a substantial and growing segment, often 25% or higher, reflecting national trends toward secular humanism. Anti-biblical policies on life and sexuality, alongside secular influences, shape the climate. Witchcraft and occult elements exist, blending Indigenous, Hispanic (brujería/curanderismo traditions), and modern practices, with certain high places and historical sites carrying spiritual significance. Major idols differ by group, materialism and autonomy among some; syncretism or ancestral spirits among others; progressive ideologies in urban centers. According to frameworks like Tim Keller's, cultural idols of success, freedom, and power are evident.
Leadership spans liberal and conservative influences depending on the area, with influential figures guiding policy and culture in directions that can either honor or oppose biblical values. A prominent festival or cultural event (often in summer months) may open spiritual portals, calling the Church to recognize such seasons as opportunities for altar ministry and consecration.
The most common sins frequently involve idolatry of self, land, or pleasure, driven by strongholds of independence, occult roots, compromise, and cultural pressures. Lifestyles are shaped by high-desert environment, tourism, arts, government employment, and a mix of traditional and modern influences.
The sin against the Church in New Mexico echoes messages to the churches in Revelation 2-3 — potential lukewarmness, tolerating compromise, or losing first love. Leaders function as priests over the state; their alignment greatly affects the spiritual climate.
Tearing Down the Veil Through Prayer
Within the 50 Days • 50 States • 50 Years campaign, we contend for New Mexico to realign fully with God's intended purpose. We are establishing a state prayer web linking every county into a unified covering. Revival will not break out fully until the veil is torn (Isaiah 25:7-8) — the covering of deception that blinds eyes and ears, fuels division, and quenches the Holy Spirit. This veil lies over different people groups, the youth, and the entire state through secular influences, occult strongholds, family breakdown, and global agendas. As the prayer web strengthens, the presence of the Lord will fill the land "as the waters cover the sea" (Habakkuk 2:14), destroying the veil, opening spiritual eyes, bringing unity, and releasing the Glorious Church.
New Mexico, Land of Enchantment — arise! Your ancient pueblos and high deserts are calling for true worship. Your diverse peoples carry redemptive gifts for the nation. As part of the national body, release your uniqueness so America stands strong in covenant. The righteous are rebuilding. The altars are rising. The veil is tearing. Revival and reformation are coming.
This is the decisive season for New Mexico and the United States to choose covenant life and destiny in Christ. Let every state awaken to its God-given role, so the nation fulfills its purpose under the glory of the Lord. Amen.
✦ Let's Pray — New Mexico Day 44 ✦
Heavenly Father, King of kings and Lord of lords, the God who transforms deserts into gardens and calls forth beauty from ancient lands, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for the faithful intercessors who continue standing in the gap during this 50 Days, 50 States Prayer Campaign. We lift up the great state of New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment.
New Mexico, your name was given by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, reflecting this land as a "new" extension of the Valley of Mexico, yet distinctly set apart. You became the 47th state on January 6, 1912, after centuries under Spanish, Mexican, and then American influence. Your rich heritage includes over 23 Native American tribes (Navajo, Apache, Pueblo, and others), deep Spanish and Hispanic roots, and a stunning diversity of landscapes: high deserts, rugged mountains, forests, and canyons. Santa Fe, your capital, is the highest in the United States. You share the unique Four Corners monument with Colorado, Arizona, and Utah — a prophetic crossing point where territories meet.
Prophetically, New Mexico, you are a land of transformation. Your varied terrain from arid deserts to elevated peaks speaks of God's power to bring life where there seems to be none. Just as the Spanish named you "New," the Lord is calling you into a fresh season of renewal and Kingdom transformation, where old traditions yield to the culture of heaven and the Gospel breaks through every barrier.
With a population of approximately 2.12–2.13 million (one of the most diverse and majority-minority states), you carry a unique spiritual DNA shaped by your people. We pray for all people groups in New Mexico: Hispanic/Latino Americans (nearly 49–50%, the highest percentage in any U.S. state, including long-established Hispano communities and more recent arrivals) — release your prophetic voice, family strength, hospitality, and celebration for the Kingdom. White/European Americans (non-Hispanic White around 36%) — redeem gifts of order, innovation, and stewardship. Native American/Indigenous peoples (around 9.5–11%, second-highest proportion nationally, with strong influence from 23 tribes) — you are deeply spiritual, artistic, and tied to the land. God has purchased you with the blood of Jesus (Revelation 5:9) not just for salvation but to bring profit to His Kingdom. Break through traditions and ceremonies that hinder the pure Gospel; let your gifts in art, pottery, weaving, drumming, and servant leadership glorify Christ and draw many to the true Creator.
Asian, Black/African American, and all other groups let every tongue and tribe encounter the living Jesus. New Mexico has a large Catholic presence blended with indigenous spiritual practices, alongside growing evangelical, charismatic, and Pentecostal churches. While many identify as Christian, challenges include substance abuse, poverty, cultural tensions, and strong adherence to traditional ceremonies among Native communities that can resist the full authority of Scripture. We repent for any mixture that keeps hearts from the one true Mediator, Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-21).
Moral and spiritual issues include the shedding of innocent blood through abortion. Recent reports show thousands of procedures annually (with figures fluctuating but remaining significant, including many out-of-state patients in prior years). Same-sex marriage was recognized statewide by court ruling in 2013. We repent for national sins legalized in this land, abortion, sexual immorality, gender confusion, and every abomination that defiles the soil.
The blood of the innocent cries out from the ground (Genesis 4:10; Revelation 6:9-10), and the land groans under the weight (Romans 8:19-23). Yet God is patient, giving room for repentance before judgment (Genesis 15:16). New Mexico, the land is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God to redeem it!
Do not miss your visitation in this season of Jubilee and automatic release! Return to your inheritance and redemptive destiny. Break free from every spiritual bondage, strongholds of tradition, mixture, idolatry, death, and perversion. Launch a Spiritual Revolutionary War as your forefathers fought the Revolutionary War for political liberty, now fight for spiritual liberty against abortion, sexual immorality, gender confusion, humanism, and every force that has held this state and nation captive.
(Jeremiah 1:10; Matthew 12:29, 43-44; Mark 16:17-18; Exodus 12:12; Deuteronomy 7:1-5; 1 Kings 18:40; Hebrews 7:12; Isaiah 25:7-8):
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we take authority over the spiritual atmosphere of New Mexico. We uproot, tear down, destroy, and overthrow every demonic altar, evil covenant, false worship system, indigenous spirit, tradition that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and veil of deception covering this state, its people groups, and the nation. We dethrone every god of this land, spirits of abortion (Molech), sexual perversion, ancestral idolatry, mixture, poverty, and addiction. We call for God's judgment upon them. We dismantle all evil altars, confuse and spiritually slaughter the priesthood of darkness, destroy every evil sacrifice (including the blood of the innocent) by the blood of the Lamb, and declare all ungodly covenants null and void.
We bind the strongman and plunder his house! The veil is removed — let the people see the glory of the true and living God!
Now we plant and build a godly worship system in New Mexico. Let pure worship arise from the deserts and mountains! Let the Gospel penetrate every tribe, tongue, and tradition. Raise up transformed Native American believers as bridges and apostles to their people. Let Hispanic believers release celebration and fire. Let evangelical and charismatic churches grow in boldness and unity. Birth a move of the Holy Spirit that transforms the Land of Enchantment into a land of revival and reformation.
