The first state in America to see the sunrise — called to release the first light of revival to the nation

May 15, 2026 · Prayer & Fasting Day 3 · Year 3 of 50

Maine's rugged coast and lighthouses historically symbolized gospel light to sailors and settlers. The Pine Tree State sits at the farthest northeast corner of America — a place of missionary and seafaring faith. Today we consecrate Maine as the eastern gate of the nation and call it into its destiny as the First Light of America.

Maine — The First Light of America

The name "Maine" comes from a French word referring to the mainland, distinguishing it from the many small islands off the northeastern coast of America. Maine carries a pioneering, lighthouse heritage — a place of missionary and seafaring faith. Current challenges include secular drift, youth exodus, aging population, economic shifts, and coastal occult influences. We are called to uproot isolation and witchcraft strongholds and restore Maine as a prophetic northeastern gate of light and endurance.

The First Sunrise in America

One of the most important uniquenesses of Maine is that it is the first place in the entire United States to see the sunrise — especially from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. At 1,530 feet above sea level, it is the highest point on the North Atlantic seaboard. Between early October and early March, you can witness the first sunrise in America from this mountain.

"But for you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings." — Malachi 4:2
"They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22–23
"The Dayspring from on high has visited us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace." — Luke 1:78–79

This is not accidental. It is a sign of the spiritual DNA of the land. Maine is called to be the "first light" — a place where spiritual awakening, fresh mercy, renewal, and the light of the Gospel break forth first and then spread across the nation.

You are a gatekeeper and watchman on the eastern gate of America — positioned to release the first light of revival to a nation sitting in darkness.

Isaiah 60:1 · Day 3 · Maine Prayer Guide

Matthew 4:16 says, "The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death a light has dawned." Just as Jesus rose early in the morning to pray (Mark 1:35), and as the Korean church under Dr. David Yonggi Cho experienced explosive growth through consistent early morning prayer, the church in Maine is called to capture the gate of the morning watch. Whoever controls the gate controls the day and the season.

Maine, you are a gatekeeper and watchman on the eastern gate of America. You are positioned to release the first light of revival, awakening, and healing to a nation sitting in darkness. Isaiah 60:1 declares: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you."

2 Chronicles 7:14 — "Humble Themselves"

Yesterday we examined those "called by My name." Today we turn to the next key word: "humble." Humility is the recognition of our sin and our utter dependence on God. As Hosea 5:15 declares, God withdraws until we acknowledge our guilt and seek His face.

2 Chronicles 7:14 · The Second Condition
"…will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Biblical Examples of Humility That Moved God

Nineveh · Jonah 3

The entire city — from king to peasant — humbled themselves in sackcloth and ashes, and God turned away His fierce anger.

King Ahab · 1 Kings 21:27–29

After Elijah's rebuke, Ahab tore his clothes and wore sackcloth. Even this wicked king's humility delayed God's judgment.

King Hezekiah · 2 Chron 32:26

Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem humbled themselves together, averting God's wrath from the entire nation.

King Manasseh · 2 Chron 33:12–13

Even wicked King Manasseh, after being taken captive, humbled himself greatly before the Lord, and God restored him.

True humility means acknowledging how far we have fallen — as Jesus warned in Revelation 2:5: "Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first."

This is not a call to passive reading of Scripture. Humility is active desperation for God. It echoes the cries of the psalmists and prophets:

  • "Oh that You would rend the heavens and come down!" — Isaiah 64:1
  • "Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck." — Psalm 69:1
  • "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God." — Psalm 42:1–2
  • "One thing I have asked of the Lord… that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life." — Psalm 27:4

Revival always begins with this kind of desperation. Until God Himself becomes the primary desire on our prayer list, revival will remain distant.

The Welsh Revival — A Picture of True Humility

Evan Roberts · Welsh Revival 1904–1905

Evan Roberts, the young leader of the 1904–1905 Welsh Revival, embodied desperate humility. He prayed fervently for months, often crying out, "Bend the Church and save the world!" He would stay awake through the night pleading with God. One night he had a powerful encounter with God's presence that lasted four hours.

His simple, desperate prayers ignited a movement that saw over 100,000 people come to Christ in Wales, transforming the nation — with crime rates plummeting and chapels overflowing. As he prayed, "Bend the Church and save the world," we are essentially asking the same thing: "Break us, Lord, and use us."

History shows that revival does not come to the casual or self-sufficient — it comes to the desperate. In the First Great Awakening, believers exhibited deep conviction of sin. In the Upper Room (Acts 1–2), the disciples waited in unified, desperate prayer until the Holy Spirit fell.

Humility is also brokenness: "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise" (Psalm 51:17). God cannot fully use us while we remain self-reliant and unbroken. Remember Jacob — he wrestled with God all night and walked away limping, forever changed (Genesis 32:24–32).

The purpose of the cross is death to self so that Christ might live through us (Luke 9:23; Galatians 2:20). If we refuse to die voluntarily, judgment will force the issue — as the thieves' legs were broken, while Jesus, already yielded, needed no breaking. Let us use this season — 50 days, 50 states, 50 years — to willingly accept God's humbling hand.

Prayer for All People Groups in Maine

Maine's population is predominantly European American (about 90–92%), with smaller but significant groups of African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and Native American peoples including the Wabanaki tribes. Every people group carries redemptive gifts. We pray for all to rise in unity as one body in Christ to fulfill God's purposes.

European Americans

Gifts of order, governance, and pioneering spirit.

African Americans

Strength in worship, intercession, and perseverance.

Hispanics & Latinos

Generosity and prophetic insight.

Asian Americans

Wisdom and diligence.

Wabanaki Nations

Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet & Micmac — deep connection to the land, stewardship, and resilience redeemed for intercession and care of creation.

All Together

One body in Christ — every tribe rising to fulfill Maine's destiny as the First Light. (1 Cor 12)

Current Spiritual Situation in Maine

Maine is one of the least churched and least religious states in America. We cannot treat what we will not name. Here is the honest picture that requires honest prayer:

51%
Of Maine adults identify as Christian — one of the lowest in the nation
~2,500
Abortions reported in Maine annually — averaging 5–6 per day
Growing
"Nones" — those with no religious affiliation — rising year on year
2012
Maine voters approved same-sex marriage by referendum
Legal
Recreational marijuana and assisted suicide (euthanasia) policies in place
Open
Ongoing Wabanaki land claims and reconciliation issues remain unresolved

Factors driving this decline include generational loss of religious affiliation, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting social dynamics favouring individual autonomy, and progressive legislation. The church must repent of complacency and arise as the lighthouse it is called to be.

The Maine Prayer

Isaiah 60:1 Malachi 4:2 Luke 1:78–79 Lam 3:22–23 Acts 1:8 Mark 1:35 Matt 4:16

Corporate Prayer

Heavenly King, thank You for the state of Maine — the first light of America. Thank You for Cadillac Mountain and the privilege of seeing the sunrise first. We thank You for every people group here and their redemptive gifts. We ask that all groups rise in unity as one body to fulfill Your purposes.

We pray that the church in Maine captures the gate of the morning watch. Raise up prayer warriors who arise early at sunrise to release fresh mercies, compassion, and the light of the Gospel. Let a great light spring forth from Maine to dispel darkness across America. We declare Maine becomes a true Jerusalem — a launching place for revival, awakening, and healing.

We bring our repentance before God for the state of Maine. We repent of lukewarmness, isolation, spiritual fog, and the complacency that has allowed secular drift to diminish the light of this state. We repent of the shedding of innocent blood, the redefinition of what God has established, and every law that contradicts the Word of God.

Let every lighthouse — every home and every church in Maine — burn again. Release this state from isolation and spiritual fog into its destiny as a voice of clarity and a bearer of first light for the entire Northeast and the nation. In the mighty name of Jesus — Amen!

Prophetic Declarations Over Maine

Spiritual Warfare — Uprooting & Building

According to Jeremiah 1:10, we uproot, break down, throw down, and destroy every evil work in Maine and America, then we plant and build. According to Matthew 12:29 and 43–44, we bind the strongman and ensure no return of unclean spirits. Jesus gave us power over every evil force (Mark 16:17–18).

We come against every evil worship system of the state of Maine and the nation of America, and the veil that has been covering our state, nation, and people groups (Isaiah 25:7–8), in the name of Jesus. We dethrone the gods of this state — spirits of secularism, autonomy, abortion, sexual perversion, euthanasia, and every demonic force — and call for God's judgment over them (Exodus 12:12). We dismantle all evil altars (Deuteronomy 7:1–5), confuse and spiritually slaughter all the evil priesthood of this state (1 Kings 18:40). We destroy all evil sacrifices on the altars of these gods by the blood of the Lamb and declare all evil covenants null and void (Hebrews 7:12).

  • We declare that Maine is the first light of America — and the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings over this state and the nation.
  • We declare fresh mercies and compassion are released every morning from Maine, just as the first sunrise breaks over Cadillac Mountain.
  • We declare a great light springs up from this land to guide the nation out of darkness and into the path of peace.
  • We declare Maine enters her Jubilee season — automatic release, restoration of inheritance, and breaking of every chain.
  • We declare a spiritual revolutionary war is launched against darkness, just as the forefathers fought for liberty.
  • We declare the church in Maine arises from complacency and decline into fire and purity — every lighthouse burns again.
  • We declare every people group in Maine — including the Wabanaki nations — steps into their redemptive gifts.
  • We declare the morning watch is captured by the church in Maine — and whoever controls the gate controls the day and the season.
  • We declare a mighty visitation and Third Great Awakening begins from the eastern gate of Maine and spreads across all of America.
  • Maine, you will not miss your visitation in this Jubilee season. Arise, shine — for your light has come!
